About Us...

Decotique Antiques & Fine Vintage Apparel was born of passion for our past including Victorian, Art Nouveau, Art Moderne and Depression eras.

About Kate @ Decotique

After serving several years in Media Relations at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, Kate left the University to pursue her interests in period clothing identification & restoration.  In 2008, Kate established her own shop in historic downtown Merchantville, Decotique Antiques & Fine Vintage Apparel located in South Jersey.  Combining writing and research skills and intense fascination for those who came before us, Kate has created a successful career as an historian, professional speaker, writer, reenactor and  shopkeeper.

Much of Kate's time involves travel to acquire special, often rare, pieces requested by customers for whom she seeks out wish list treasures.  She is always on the hunt for unique objects & photographica to enhance her lecture series, Where Fashion Meets History.   Her entertaining and informative talks include ongoing, painstaking research of Antique Purses, Millinery, Footwear, Ladies' & Gentle Men's Clothing, Toiletries, Hair Contraptions & Concoctions, many of which are not easily identified.  During the presentations, Kate displays a wide array of examples genuine to the eras from which they were once useful and cherished.

After a year of writing and planning, Kate created a new program, "Notorious Women of History."   Researching, writing and reenacting each of her characters, Kate breaths

life into each woman as she may have been while swinging an angry hatchet, unwittingly spreading disease, or looking down a rope ready to snap!

The Bizarre Case of Lizzie Borden debuted October 8, 2014 in the quaint historic town of Merchantville, NJ.  Since then, Kate has taken Lizzie on the road to share her bizarre tale of family madness and mayhem.

Typhoid Mary:  Dinner is Served!  Turn of the 20th century Irish immigrant, Mary Mallon, banished from the world for spreading the killer disease, Typhoid Fever, debuted October, 2015.   Bride of Frankenstein:  Married with Children debuted at the Emlen Physick Estate, Cape May, NJ,  October 31, 2016.
